5 Espresso Machines under $200

Becoming a home barista is probably a dream we’ve all had. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also have great coffee. Who’s ever said no to good coffee on a budget? So I’ve compiled a list of amazing budget-friendly coffee makers that will satisfy your barista fantasies.

Nespresso Vertuo Evoluo Coffee and Espresso Machine with Aeroccino

If you’ve never heard of Nespresso, you may not be a real coffee lover. Just think of a ‘Keurig’, but 10 times cooler (I don’t know why, but just trust me). The Vertuo prepares freshly brewed single-serve coffee and authentic espresso just at the touch of a button. No matter what capsules you throw in here, you’re guaranteed great tasting coffee.

Pros: This is probably one of the sleekest coffee makers you’ll find on the market. It heats up just within 25 seconds, shuts off automatically after 9 minutes, makes 4 different coffee cup sizes, and produces amazing coffee.

Cons: Despite the reasonable (yet still expensive) price of the machine, the coffee capsules are where your money is spent. Pods from the original line won’t fit into this machine, so you may find it a hassle to find the right pods. You won’t be making any lattes if you don’t purchase the milk frother.

Keurig K55 K-Classic Coffee Maker

The Keurig is a classic when it comes to single-serve coffee. The K55 is probably one of the most highest rated Keurig machines and is great for college coffee addicts because it’s definitely more budget friendly. This machine allows you to have multiples coffees without refilling the water tank, which is great for lazy people like me. There are also so many options when it comes to choosing K-Cups.

Pros: This machine is definitely budget friendly, and the K-Cups aren’t too expensive either. A nice bonus is that you can purchase a reusable K-Cup to fill with your own coffee grounds. There are also so many options of K-Cups available for purchase, so you’re pretty always guaranteed great coffee. This coffee maker will hold for years on end and continue to make your coffee in under a minute.

Cons: For the best bang for your buck, you should always be on the lookout for deals on K-Cups (take a trip to your local Costco). For some, this machine might be too noisy and it doesn’t support the new K-Carafe pods. It also doesn’t make cappuccinos or lattes.

Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista Espresso and Cappuccino Maker

This espresso and coffee maker is super-automated, which basically means that you’re able to press one button and come back in about a minute or two. So this machine is great for lazy people who want good coffee. The buttons on this machine are super simple to use so within a few pushes you’ll have a customized coffee in your hands.

Pros: This is an easy to use machine that is equipped with easy cleaning. Everything about your coffee is customizable. The competitive price of this machine makes it a must-have among other products.

Cons: If you’re a true espresso enthusiast, this may not be the machine for you. You also have to make sure the milk tank is placed firmly in the machine otherwise it may leak. This espresso maker is also pretty loud so if you’re not a morning person, this probably isn’t the product for you.

De’Longhi Espresso and Coffee Maker

Making a rich, smooth cappuccino is super easy with this machine because of its milk frother and dual function filter. This machine also allows you to use pods or grinds (it just depends how much money you want to spend). It’s perfect for you beginner baristas with limited counter space.

Pros: This coffee maker produces consistent and delicious coffee. It’s also automatic and convenient so it provides an easy ‘hands-off’ experience. It’s also pretty affordable compared to other espresso makers.

Cons: It can only create two kinds of beverages, and can only produce a shot or two at a time. This machine also lacks the space for normal sized coffee cups so you’ll have to buy some espresso cups (but that you can have the true barista experience I guess).

Keurig K250 Single-Serve Programmable Coffee Maker

If you’re not into this colour, there are other options so don’t worry. This is a versatile coffee maker that will suit anyone or in a large office with numerous staff. It’s simple to use and can produce several cups of your favourite drink. Like everything else in my life this coffee maker has its share of shortcomings, but despite those, it has many great qualities (like it’s elegant design). Before you buy this though, keep in mind that you can only use the new Keurig 2.0 pods which means that the old pods (and most likely cheaper pods) are a no-go.

Pros: This machine has a huge water reservoir, so you don’t have to stress about constantly filling it up. It also has customizable settings to make different types of brews. The coffee strength control settings let you dictate how bold you want your cup to be. It’s also small enough to save you tons of counter space while providing the best service and it also allows for easy cleaning with the descaling program.

Cons: The cup sizes that are able to fit underneath are pretty limited despite the company’s claims. You can also only use their special K-Cup sizes and carafe (so you should be careful of using reusable K-Cups). It is also somewhat difficult to remove the water reservoir.

There are so many options out there when it comes to choosing a perfect coffee maker. A huge part of purchasing one depends on what kind of coffee drinker you are. Out of all of the espresso/coffee makers I’ve seen, these will definitely provide you with the best coffee for your budget. If all else fails though, you can always take a trip to your local Starbucks.
