Top 10 Ways to Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is another idea that has slowly begun to integrate itself into the back of our brains where we keep other thoughts like, “should I go grocery shopping today?” or, “I should probably buy that birthday gift,” and we end up avoiding the task until the last possible minute when our fridge is empty or there’s one hour before the party starts. Commiting to a healthy lifestyle should not just be a New Year’s resolution, but a daily practice. Not only by doing this do we lengthen our lifespan, but we also increase the quality of our life. You are not alone if you think maintaining a healthy lifestyle is difficult to manage around our stressful lives, that’s why this list was created with a busy lifestyle in mind.

Develop a positive attitude

A great first step towards this is to look in the mirror first thing every morning and tell yourself three things that you like about you. As ridiculous as it sounds, it is proven that doing this will create a greater amount of self-love. It is extremely important to develop a good opinion about yourself to create more confidence. The best things to keep in mind when creating a positive attitude are: expecting the best outcomes in circumstances, believing in yourself and everything you do, developing the power to reach your goals, breaking worry habits, improving relationships, assuming control over circumstances, and being kind to yourself. A great book on positive attitudes is The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. This book outlines practical techniques  to carry out ambitions and hopes.

Go outside more

Okay, so maybe this tip wasn’t created with a busy lifestyle in mind, but it definitely will improve a stressful lifestyle. It is proven that going outside and enjoying nature makes you happier. It is also a good way to take a short break from technology and the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Going outside improves our minds and increases our energy. Getting in touch with your natural surroundings isn’t as hard as it sounds. For those who live near their workplace, walking to work every so often will not only benefit you, but our planet. Those who live a little further from their workplace can consider biking to work. The weekends are also a great time for enjoying the outdoors. Adults should be getting an average of seven hours of sleep nightly to “function properly” in the morning. Getting enough sleep is one of the most important and effective ways to improve your health. Try some relaxing activities, or turn on a diffuser with some essential oils. Take advantage of meditating, listening to music, reading, watching a comedy, or exercising. These activities can influence feelings of “calm” and “happiness”.

Eat well

Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet is probably the easiest time-effective change to make for those who are extremely busy. Eating well is the perfect foundation for a healthy routine, but don’t forget to reward yourself every now and then with some chocolate or whatever to satisfy that craving and to avoid binging. Vegetables, like leafy greens, and fruits contain many nutrients such as vitamins and antioxidants to boost your immune system and fight off toxins. You should try your best to eat at least five servings of varied vegetables and fruits a day. Preparing your meals in advance and making your lunches the night before prevents the morningly frantic search in the kitchen for possible lunch ideas. Hang out with like-minded people

Hanging out with friends can also push you out of your comfort zone a little bit and you may find something new that you really enjoy, it’s also a great way to get out of the house more often. 

Exercise regularly

Becoming confident in your body allows for you to become happy and more confident in yourself. Exercising is a great way to stimulate your health and studies have shown that it actually improves longevity as well. It is recommended that you try to exercise at least three times a week. For those who are busy, exercising for just 30 minutes in the morning is a great way to become energized for the day. I recommend just some simple push ups, squats, and sit-ups on a Yoga Mat.  Drink lots of water

 Have fun

Having fun and letting loose is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is important to do what you love so that you are motivated which can increase your chances for success. Having that certain holiday you’ve always dreamed of can allow you to come back feeling refreshed and energised. However my favorite way to have fun would be adopting a pet. Investing in a pet allows you to give comfort and receive comfort at the same time. Pets are a natural stress reliever, plus they bring tons of joy into a home. Pets are also known to understand your feelings and will be there to cuddle with you’re sad, and play with you when you’re happy. There are tons of animals out there who are in need of loving owners and welcoming homes.

With diligence and practice, it shouldn’t be too hard to lead a healthier lifestyle, no matter who you are or what your schedule looks like. You won’t just live longer, but you’ll feel amazing and refreshed. Of course, these are just suggestions but I believe following these tips will make it easier to achieve your goals and live the life that you deserve.
